My Testimony
I was born and raised in a God-fearing home. I have the most wonderful
parents who sacrificed so much to raise me and my two younger
brothers. We were put through Christian School, and were very
involved in church every time the doors opened.
SO WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL???
At age 16 I ran from the Lord. I rebelled against God and family. I put
myself in foster care to get away from the rules. I plunged into drugs,
alcohol, sex, and rock n' roll. After graduation I went into the Marine
Corps so I would not have to go home. 5 weeks later I was home after
making such a mess of it that they gave me an entry level separation.
Next I tried rehab, but quit that, too. Then Bible College; quit that,
too. Rehab after Rehab, part-time church attendance, and bouncing in
and out of my family's home continued.
In 1989, I was involved in petty crime but slid by. Then my girlfriend came
over to see me one night. She threw my ring on the table and said, " I am
pregnant, and we cannot see each other any longer!' She told me she
intended to give the baby up for adoption, and from day one I offered
to support her and somehow keep the baby. I was in no condition, and
had no money.
When our daughter was born I got to hold her. I thought the support
would convince everyone to stop the adoption. The next time I heard
my daughters voice, she was crying in the background as the attorney
told me that the adoption was final.
I gave up on myself and every glimmer of hope ebbed from my being.
Soon I was deeply addicted to a number of drugs. I didn't want to feel
anything anymore. The day after Christmas I robbed a store to get
more money. I was immediately arrested and that led to a prison
sentence of 6-25 years.
