Angie Klinker, Alto

If singing was my first love, then my second would have to be songwriting. I wrote my first song at the
age of 9. I’ve been blessed to have a few national artists record my songs. In 1992 the Gospel
Harmony Boys recorded “I Won’t Have a Care” and it charted to #42 in the Singing News. Of course
this was exciting for a girl from southern Ohio to have a song on the chart, even if it wasn’t a #1 song.
Then in 1997, Jim Hamill of The Kingsmen recorded my song “Laying Up Treasures”. What a thrill it
was for me to have such a legendary singer record one of my songs. Around that same time, The
Anchormen recorded my song “River of Life”. This song was first recorded in 1997 by The Regents and
was released to national radio.
Then in 2009 I faced a journey I wasn’t prepared for. I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and
underwent surgery to have my entire thyroid removed. The surgeon said they got to it just in time.
One side of my thyroid was a tumor as large as a softball, and it was cancer all the way through. God
saved my life, because it hadn’t spread. It was a miracle that it hadn’t. I don’t deserve God’s mercy,
but I’m so glad He gives it! I will struggle with the ups and downs of hormonal imbalances the rest of
my life due to thyroid medication adjustments, but God sustains me and I am thankful to still be here.
I really do owe Him everything.
After joining Damascus Road Trio (now Majestic River) in 2011, I feel I’ve come full circle. I am so
blessed to be back in Southern Gospel. When the opportunity to join the group came about, it left me
with no doubt that it was the right path and perfect timing to get back on the road and get back to what
I love doing….singing and writing. I’m very excited to see what God has planned for Majestic River. It’s
all about Him and all for His glory!
I was born into a family steeped richly in southern gospel
and bluegrass music. I loved groups such as
The Happy Goodmans, The Hinsons, The Nelons, and
The Cathedrals, etc. Then at the age of 9, just after I
was saved, I began singing and traveling with my Mom
and Dad. I remember telling my Mom that I was ready to
sing with her and Dad and that I could sing the other
harmony part… she wasn’t so sure. But one day the
three of us sat down, and with Dad playing his guitar we
began to sing… thus began my journey into gospel
music. We traveled for 10 years and then I went on to
sing in various other groups throughout the following 20
years. I began learning to play the piano when I was 10.
I didn’t take piano lessons; my grandma Leeth taught me
my first chord. Then my aunt made a complete chord
chart, this was a God-send to me. I sat at the piano for
hours working from that one piece of paper. I owe a big
thank you to my aunt Esther….and by the way; I still
have that piece of paper!
